Detox and Cleanse 101

So on my six month anniversary in New York, my original plan was to go out and splurge. But after all of the craziness and running around these past few weeks, I decided to do absolutely nothing! But in a proactive way. I decided to detox and cleanse my system, teeth, hair, skin and nails. Because of this, it inspired me to write a blog about it. I figured maybe some of you are interested in this or have wanted to try to cleanse, but were nervous about it. Well, consider me your guinea pig! Below is my cleanse, detox diet and recipes for those of you who want to try. Times are included in every meal because I recommend spacing out your meals in this process. Enjoy and good luck!

Pre-Breakfast(10 am): I started my day with a glass of warm-hot water with a slice of lemon. I also took my vitamins with this as well. I take a multi vitamin and fish oil. I recommend fish oil to anyone who wants to improve skin and nails!
Breakfast(10:30 am): Breakfast smoothie. *you can always substitute the fruits and veggies, as well the additives. This was my own creation.
1 cup spinach
1 large apple
1 clementine
1 cup water
1 tablespoon peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

It doesn't look amazing, but this was really good! It was energizing and filling. It tasted mostly like apple, but you could taste hints of cinnamon and peanut butter.

Lunch(1pm): Guacamole, salsa and crackers
Guac:
1/2 small avocado
1/4 cup finely chopped pepper (I used green)
1 slice onion
Juice of lemon wedge
Garlic Salt
Pepper
Crushed red pepper flakes
Salsa:
2 slices tomato
1/2 cup beans (I used pink)
Oregano
Salt
Pepper
-I also had a side of wheat thins, but I recommend multi-grain crackers

The guac was super tasty, I was proud!

Snack(3:30): Carrots and Walnuts. *You can always substitute for a different veggie or fruit, as well as nut.

Dinner(6pm): Salad *You can always mix and match, but stay with veggies for dinner.
2 cups spinach
1/2 small avocado
1/4 cup chopped pepper
2 slices tomato, quartered
1 slice onion, chopped
5 baby carrots, diced
Lite Dressing (I used Italian, I suggest anything with an oil base, like a vinaigrette)

Snack(8:30pm): *optional* Multi-Grain Crackers, 1 Tablespoon Peanut Butter, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Pre-Sleep(10 pm): Green Tea *this is really important before bed because not only is tea calming in general, but green tea is a great detoxifying, but it also is a filler to hold you over until the morning

After doing the detox, I definitely got a better sleep. I felt refreshed and my skin and nails totally improved. If I'm being totally honest, I missed bread and carbs. Granted their was carbs in the veggies and fruit I was eating, it was NOT the same affect as bread. When I ate my toast with peanut butter and jam, it was quite satisfying the day after. I will definitely look into more breakfast smoothies and I recommend the detox if you want a cleanse and a release. Cheers and good luck!
